Kilns College began in the fall of 2008 with four night classes, sixty part time students, and a vision. That vision was to change the world one student at a time. A lofty goal but we would rather shoot for the stars than play it safe. After all, it’s been said that playing it safe is the easiest way to fail.
Kilns College has been working hard to keep the cost of tuition low by throwing a variety of fundraisers. In October 2008, we hosted a golf tournament, The Great Oregon Divot, which will be returning once again Fall of 2009. In the summer of 2009 we hosted a silent auction and concert to very good results. We have also partnered with many local businesses, instituting our Sponsor-A-Month program.
In the spring semester of 2008, we maintained our four class schedule and had seventy-five students, three of which were full time. We were offering a One Year Biblical Studies Diploma and a One Year Bible & Arts Diploma. Since then, we have applied for our Two Year Associate of Arts & Bible Studies Degree and expect to receive it by Fall of 2010.
A crucial step in establishing a long-lasting institution is branching out, making contacts, and collaborating with likeminded individuals and organizations. We have been intentional and focused on this point. We have partnered with another Christian school in Burundi Africa, PTI, Partners Trust International. Also, in the Spring of 2009 we met with all of the Central Oregon high school counselors and supplied them with information regarding Kilns College.
This coming semester, Fall of 2009, we’ve upped the ante a bit by offering six courses, including our first day class. Of those six classes, three are Bible courses, two of them are Art courses, and we are also offering a Human Rights course. We hope to have close to one-hundred students enrolled and the pieces keep falling into place for another successful year.
Kilns College continues to grow. We’ve recently brought on a Director of Admissions, Trisha Lavik and a Registrar, Merrilee Lewis. With over fifteen faculty members, Kilns College is not merely surviving, but thriving.
So here we are today, bigger and better equipped, but with the same passion and attention to detail that started it all. God is moving in this place, the question is, “Will you be a part of what He’s made?” Join us.
